It is a recessed design, so it surface mount found on many boats and RVs. It has a very low profile design, and uses mouse-trap type stainless steel retaining springs, allowing it to fit into any headliner which currently houses halogen puck type downlights. This lamp also has a 100% EMI-free design, yet still has multi-voltage capability (10-30VDC) thanks to the latest chipset design.
