Veinasa-CO2-2 is a mini infrared carbon dioxide sensor module that uses NDIR gas sensor technology to measure the concentration of carbon dioxide in indoor air. The working principle of infrared non dispersive absorption (NDIR) gas sensor is to analyze, calculate and determine the gas concentration through the relationship between gas concentration and absorption intensity (Lambert Beer law) according to the absorption characteristics of different gas molecules for near-infrared spectrum. CO2, CO and other molecules composed of heterogeneous atoms have absorption spectra in the infrared wavelength region, and their absorption intensity follows Lambert Beer law. When the light wave corresponding to the characteristic absorption wavelength of a gas passes through the measured gas, its intensity will be significantly weakened. The degree of intensity attenuation is related to the gas concentration, and the relationship between them complies with Lambert Beer law. The basic principle and structure of NDIR sensor
are shown in the figure below.

The basic mathematical model is as follows: most organic and inorganic polyatomic molecular gases have specific absorption wavelengths in the infrared region. When the red light passes through, the transmission light intensity of these gas molecules to a specific wavelength can be expressed by Lambert Beer law: I = i0e KPL, and the absorption light intensity I can be expressed as: I = i0-i = I0 (1 - e-kpl). Where I0 is the incident light intensity; I is the transmitted light intensity; L is the thickness of gas medium, P is the gas concentration and K is the absorption coefficient.
