What does a refrigerant pressure sensor do to an AC?
Some AC systems have a Low Pressure Safety, a safety to shut off the compressor off if the pressure on the suction side gets too low. Some AC systems have a High Pressure Safety to shut off the compressor is the pressure on the discharge side gets too high. Some AC systems have both. The safeties are designed to prevent catastrophic damage. Some AC systems have an ambient switch, a pressure switch on the discharge side that keeps the discharge pressure from getting too low, shutting off the condenser fan to raise pressure, then turning it back on once a certain pressure has been reached. This keeps the discharge pressure up when it's colder outside.
