Differential Cross Shaft

A planetary gear set consists of planetary gears, a sun gear, and a sun gear internal ring. The interaction between the planetary gears and the cross shaft is crucial. The cross shaft connects the two planetary gears, allowing them to rotate via the cross shaft.

During normal operation of the differential, the sun gear and the satellite gears engage through a series of synchronized gears. The rotational axis of the planetary gears coincides with the rotational axis of the sun gear, while they rotate around the common axis of the sun gear.

Since the rotational axis of each planetary gear is linked via the cross shaft to another planetary gear, when both planetary gears rotate around the sun gear simultaneously, the cross shaft rotates. This action drives the operation of the drive wheels, thereby fulfilling the basic function of the differential.
