Types GFR, GFRN are roller type freewheels. These units are part of the Stieber modular system. They are bearing supported, using two 160.. series bearings, and require oil lubrication. These units may be used in designs providing oil lubrication and sealing as on the example overleaf. The bearings must not be axially stressed.
Typically, types GFR and GFRN are used with the F series covers that are designed to transmit torque, and provide oil lubrication and sealing. Usually these covers are used in pairs according to combinations shown on the below technical data pages. The outer race of the GFR model is plain to receive and center any component bored to H7 tolerance.
Torque is transmitted by bolts through the cover plate in this case. Types GFR, GFRN are identical except that type GFRN has a keyway on the outside diameter to transmit the torque. Two paper seals are delivered with each unit to be placed between the outer race and cover plates.

Gear Reducers

Clay Pigeon Traps
In this common application a one-way clutch is used as a backstop to prevent the arm of the trap "bouncing" back after a launch. The rugged R&B roller-ramp design provides a reliable solution for this demanding but price sensitive application.
High Voltage Switchgear
Here a one-way clutch is used as a backstop to secure the actuating spring pre-load position. The quality and reliability of the chosen R&B product ensures instantaneous applied torque and a firm "latch".
Agricultural Machinery
On seed drills a series of one-way clutches is used as an indexing mechanism to provide an infinitely variable speed drive. One-way clutches are also used for overrunning on round bale presses and as backstops for bulk conveyors and silo extractors. R&B one-way clutches are used as backstops to prevent reverse rotation of the thruster's propeller when not in operation. One-way clutches are frequently used in multiple fan installations to prevent non driven fans from "windmilling" in the reverse direction.
Vertical Pumps
Large vertical pumps used in power generating plant cooling systems and for flood control frequently employ a backstop. Larger versions of the R&B high speed backstop are ideal for these applications and may be mounted on the top of the pump or the electric motor.
