1.kingpin inclination angle
The function of kingpin alignment angle is to make the wheels automatically return to alignment. Generally, the wheel axis is not on the horizontal plane. For the convenience of explanation, it is assumed that the wheel axis is on the horizontal plane when the car runs in a straight line. When the car runs in a straight line, the intersection angle between the wheel axis and the kingpin is exactly this maximum.
The included angle between the wheel axis and the kingpin is constant during steering. When the wheel turns an angle, the wheel axis tilts downward away from the horizontal plane, resulting in the body lifting and the potential energy increasing. In this way, the gravity of the car itself has the effect of returning the steering wheel to the original middle position. When the vehicle is parked horizontally, the included angle between the kingpin axis and the ground vertical line in the transverse vertical plane of the vehicle is kingpin inclination angle.
2.Front wheel camber
If the wheel is installed exactly perpendicular to the road surface when the vehicle is empty, the Wheel inclination may occur due to bearing deformation of axle when it is fully loaded, which will accelerate the wear of the tires. In addition, the vertical reaction force of the road surface to the wheel along the axial component of the hub will make the hub press the small bearing at the outer end, increase the load of the small bearing at the outer end and the fastening nut of the hub, and reduce their service life. However, the camber angle should not be too large, otherwise the tire will be biased and worn. As shown in the left picture, when the car is parked horizontally, the included angle between the wheel plane and the vertical line of the ground is the front wheel camber in the horizontal vertical plane of the car.
3.Front wheel toe in
When the wheel has a camber angle, it is similar to a rolling cone when rolling, causing the wheels on both sides to roll outward. Due to the restraint of the tie rod and axle, the wheel will not roll outward, and the wheel will roll inward on the ground, thus increasing the wear of the tire. In order to avoid the adverse consequences caused by conical rolling effect, the two front wheels are properly deflected inward, that is, the front wheel toe in is formed.
