Rail shoulder, also called rail iron shoulder, is mainly used to be casted in the concrete ties to fixate elastic rail clips. According to the shape, it can be classified into Single Stem Rail Iron Shoulder and Twin Stems Rail Iron Shoulder. Besides, according to the manufacturing ways, rail shoulder can be divided into 3 types: casting rail shoulder, weld-on rail shoulder and hot forging rail shoulder.
Casting Rail Shoulder
Casting rail shoulder is pressed into the concrete sleeper as the embedded part of the rail fastening system. It is used together with E rail clip to fasten the railway track. The iron for producing casting rail shoulders are mainly M.C.I. pearlitic malleable iron, S.G.C.I. spheroid graphite iron and S. G. C. I. malleable iron, as the following: GB/T 1348-1988, NF EN 1563(1997), ISO1038, DIN 1693, JIS G5502 (2001), KS D 4302, GOST 7293(1985) or BS EN 1563(1997).

Weld-on Rail Shoulder
Weld-on shoulder is used in the typical position of rail. It is manufactured according to the AREA standard and welded on flat steel plate instead of the standard tie plate. Weld-on rail shoulder is designed to be used together with E rail clips, which allows customers to fabricate rail retaining units on both steel sleepers and steel base plates.
Here, it's helpful to know that the casting rail iron shoulders can also be welded on to longer length steel sleeper section or bearers to use in the fabrication of switch and crossing layouts where vertical geometry is employed. It is very useful and cost-effective for railroad shoulders to be welded in the specific position as dictated by the layout design. Hot Forging Rail Shoulder
This type of rail shoulder is produced by the way of hot forging, and the raw material can be low carbon steel and mid carbon steel, based on customers' demands. The hot forging rail shoulder is used together with clip bolt and special rail clip to fix the rail track.
